Women in Digital Leadership and AI at WWBES 2026
Our CEO, Dr. Haniza Yon (PhD), participated as one of the panellists in a session on Women in Digital Leadership and AI – Closing the Gap, Shaping the Future at the World Women Economic & Business Summit (WWBES) 2026 in Penang recently.
The summit was officiated by YAB Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, who highlighted the important role of women in driving social and economic development. The event brought together distinguished leaders from government, industry, academia, and the technology sector to discuss the future of women’s leadership in the digital age.
Representing the perspective of a science entrepreneur, Dr. Haniza shared that while technology and AI continue to advance rapidly, self-confidence remains a critical enabler for women to step forward as leaders, innovators, and decision-makers. She emphasised that confidence often begins long before a career starts, shaped by the encouragement, support, and examples provided by parents, educators, mentors, and role models.
Dr. Haniza further highlighted that building confidence, encouraging curiosity, and exposing young women to positive role models are essential to nurturing the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, and AI.
The discussion reinforced that closing the digital leadership gap is not solely about access to technology or technical skills. It is also about creating environments that empower individuals to believe in their capabilities, embrace opportunities, and lead with confidence.
The event was further graced by the presence of Yang Mulia Toh Puan Raja Dato’ Seri Utama Noora Ashikin binti Raja Abdullah, Consort of the Governor of Penang, during the luncheon programme. Participants also had the privilege of listening to a special address by H.E. Atifete Jahjaga, Former President of the Republic of Kosovo, on the theme "Role of Women in Leadership and Governance." The summit concluded with a special address by YB Puan Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Malaysia, who reaffirmed the importance of empowering women and strengthening their role in leadership, governance, and nation-building.
